Highly Deployable Propaq LT Transforms Patient Monitoring

National Teaching Institute(TM) & Critical Care Exposition (NTI), New Orleans, La.,

Welch Allyn, a leading global manufacturer of frontline medical products and solutions, today introduced the Welch Allyn Propaq® LT, a rugged and lightweight patient monitor that allows healthcare providers to extend continuous vital signs monitoring to more patients than ever before. The company is featuring the new product this week at the National Teaching Institute(TM) Critical Care Exposition in New Orleans.

Weighing less than two pounds, the Propaq LT comes equipped with essential continuous monitoring capabilities in a compact design. It can be used in a number of bedside, transport and ambulatory applications, and it is deployable in areas in and outside the hospital where technical complexity or cost made monitoring impossible in the past.

"The Propaq LT extends patient monitoring and the associated life saving benefits to completely new categories of patients and clinical user," said Grant Gibson, Welch Allyn group marketing manager. "It's the only patient monitor that effectively bridges the gap, in terms of both size and complexity, between more traditional continuous monitors and spot-check devices. Caregivers now have the capability to monitor patients in places they never thought possible."

Time and Cost Savings

Before now, patient monitors have been developed primarily for use in the most acute care settings. As a result, monitors are too expensive, bulky, fragile or complicated, or not equipped with the necessary features to monitor patients in multiple areas--ultimately raising the cost of patient care. With the versatility to monitor patients with varying levels of acuity and operation that's simple enough for clinicians of all skill levels, the Propaq LT can be deployed on any floor and costs about half as much as traditional patient monitors.

The Propaq LT comes equipped to monitor heart rate, 3- or 5-lead ECG, pulse oximetry, non-invasive blood pressure, and respiration with an easy-to-use interface. It features a full-color LCD screen, can be configured for use on neonatal, pediatric and adult patients and can be operated in standalone mode or wirelessly networked to Welch Allyn's Acuity Central Monitoring Station.

"The Propaq LT can go with the patient whether in the ER, Intermediate Care Unit, or diagnostic units. Despite its compact size, it holds 10 advanced monitoring parameters that can be easily viewed on the monitor screen," said Dorothy Barrow, RN, MS, leader/manager, Critical Care Services at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend, Ore. "Additionally, we have found it very easy to operate, requiring minimal staff education time. The Propaq LT is a highly versatile tool that will help caregivers become more efficient."

By deploying the Propaq LT into its self-charging bed rail cradle and connecting the device to a large color flat panel display, healthcare providers have the ability to monitor patients in both bedside and procedure applications. Its innovative design makes it the first monitor of its kind light enough for the patient to carry or attach to an IV pole-and small enough to fit on a nightstand. Its size, lightweight design, long-battery life and ruggedness - it can withstand a six-foot drop - make the Propaq LT ideal for a variety of transport, emergency and military situations.

The Propaq LT is the latest addition to Welch Allyn's line of Propaq monitors, which include the Propaq CS and Propaq Encore, both heralded worldwide for their quality and durability, and ease of use.
