Welch Allyn's Commitment to the Environment

Welch Allyn is committed to protecting our environment and natural resources. One example of this commitment is our on-going efforts to fully support and comply with the European Union's (EU) WEEE and RoHS directives.  These directives restrict the use of certain chemical substances in products Welch Allyn sells in EU countries, and also require that certain Welch Allyn electronic products be collected from end-users at the end of their useful lives.

How You Can Help | Information on WEEE and RoHS

WEEE

The EU Directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic E quipment (WEEE) requires that producers of electronic equipment who sell into EU countries: (1) label equipment to notify customers that it needs to be recycled, (2) take back the equipment from customers at end of life, and (3) finance its recycling and reuse.  The WEEE directive took effect on August 13, 2005 and manufacturers were required to meet target objectives for recycling by December 2006.

RoHS

The EU directive on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous S ubstances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS) requires that producers of electrical and electronic equipment placed on the market after July 1, 2006 limit the use of certain restricted substances. Products cannot contain more than 0.1% lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs), or polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs); or over 0.01% cadmium.  Although Medical products fall into Category 8 of the RoHS Directive and are presently exempt from the requirements, Welch Allyn is actively working on changes required for all our Electrical and Electronic Equipment to fully satisfy the requirements of this directive.

Visit the RoHS pages for more information on Welch Allyn's plans to meet this directive.

Welch Allyn is committed to complying with all applicable directives and regulations, especially those that contribute to protecting our environment.  We have and will continue to evaluate the ability of our suppliers to provide compliant parts and to evaluate our products and make changes required in order to comply with all EU directives.

This process requires time and considerable effort for redesign, retesting, recertification, and re-verification that all changes do not adversely affect the performance or reliability of our products.  This process is carefully followed for each of our affected products to ensure customer and patient safety is not compromised.  For additional information or questions regarding the compliance status for any specific Welch Allyn product, please contact weee_rohs@welchallyn.com
